Part Time Outreach and Education Associate

The Kansas City Anti-Violence Project (KCAVP) is a grassroots nonprofit organization that is working to end domestic violence, sexual assault and hate crimes in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community focused on the metropolitan Kansas City area as well as western Missouri and eastern Kansas.

The outreach and education associate is responsible for providing outreach and community education through trainings and event participation to increase awareness about LGBT domestic violence, sexual assault, and hate crimes in Kansas. The position is 25 hours per week Monday through Friday during regular business hours and a flexible schedule is possible. Some nights and weekend work may be required. This individual reports to the executive director and is supervised by the outreach and education coordinator.

Responsibilities
1. Facilitating community education
A. Presenting trainings about LGBT violence to community organizations, service providers, law enforcement, etc.
B. Cultivating relationships with people in the community for new places to conduct trainings and presentations and solicit education and outreach ventures with those people.
C. Assisting the outreach and education coordinator with curriculum development and revisions.
2. Coordinating community outreach
A. Scheduling attendance at community events as well as coordinating the staffing for them whether that is the outreach and education associate, outreach and education coordinator, etc.
B. Collaborating with the LGBT community and business leaders to include KCAVP in their efforts whether that is posters and brochures in bars, training of staff or volunteers, etc.
C. Working with the outreach and education coordinator developing outreach materials.

3. Other duties
A. Keep thorough track of all statistics related trainings, outreach events, and collaborations through spreadsheets (Excel) and databases (Salesforce).
B. Represent the agency at meetings with other agencies and organizations.
C. Provide backup support to or act in place of the victim advocate for direct client service when needed.
D. Participate in staff meetings, team meetings and trainings.
E. Perform other duties as issued by the executive director.

The position is located in Kansas City, MO. Regional travel by car within one hour of Kansas City is required, almost all travel will be to the Kansas side of the metro area. The candidate must have reliable transportation.

Because of the nature of outreach events and volunteer activities, the position requires working outside of regular business hours. Additionally, candidates will have to provide three references and pass a background check due to the nature of work the agency does.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in a related field, in pursuit of a bachelor's degree, or equivalent work or volunteer experience that would provide similar skills and experience is required.
2. A commitment to and thorough knowledge of the LGBT community.
3. Previous public speaking or training experience is required.
4. Ability to network, put oneself out there, and not afraid to meet new people.
5. Autonomous in work as well as in a group and able to follow directions and instructions.
6. Cultural competence in working with diverse populations, including communities of color, immigrants, men, women, and transgender persons, varying ages, socioeconomic backgrounds, and abilities.
7. Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and be flexible in work roles.
8. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
9. Ability to travel to meetings and trainings within an hour+ radius of Kansas City is required.
10. A valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and an automobile with current insurance meeting the standards set by the state of Missouri are also required.
Maturity, professional manner, and neat dress.
11. Curiosity and a sense of humor.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Work (volunteer or paid) in a domestic violence program, sexual assault program, hate crimes program or a similar field is a plus.
2. Experience in a nonprofit organization as an employee, intern, or volunteer is preferred but not necessary.
3. Database experience of some type is also preferred.
