Workers Wanted Wednesdays

NBC Action News (KSHB, Channel 41) will be kicking off a weekly feature on their morning news show on Wednesday, November 19. They are calling the feature Workers Wanted Wednesday, which will highlight job openings available in the Kansas City area despite the recession. Each week they will feature employers—particularly those who have a number of vacancies—and also feature resources to help people find jobs during these difficult economic times.

They are kicking off the series this week by having Workforce Partnership and JobNews participate in a phone bank. The phone bank will be in operation this Wednesday from 5:00 AM to 9:00 AM. During their early news (5 AM to 7 AM), Jeff Vaughn, one of the co-anchors, will be broadcasting from the phone bank, and he will be interviewing me regarding available jobs, economic conditions, our services and resources, and similar topics. They will be frequently inviting viewers to call in to speak to one of our staff about job search resources, available jobs, job search tips, and the like. During the Today Show (7 AM to 9 AM), their local “cut-ins” will again feature the phone bank and remind viewers that the phone bank will be available through 9:00 AM. They will also be doing a web cast from noon to 12:30 PM that day, during which the phone bank will again be in operation.

Subsequent weeks will not feature Workforce Partnership, but they will be working with us to identify employers to feature, and may periodically include us for additional information. They will continue having Workers Wanted Wednesday until economic conditions improve or they determine that interest in the segment is declining.

Scott Anglemyer, Executive Director, Workforce Partnership Region III
