Teller Trainer- Penn Valley Bank

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Teller Training Assistant serves as the initial technical subject-matter expert for all newly hired tellers. Under the direction of management, partners with management to accomplish completion of the new hire induction process, including coordinating meetings and gathering various checklists. Responsible for gathering feedback and working with management to resolve reported or observed issues and assisting with the management of continuing education.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Provide orientation and formal training for tellers and other bank employees regarding teller operations or other related topics (both new and existing employees). Provide retraining as necessary. Training must follow established guidelines and include: Proper teller transaction processing, Silverlake/Vertex, cash handling procedures, customer identification/fraud detection, compliance, bank products, customer service, etc.
Act as primary point of contact regarding the Vertex system, teller procedures, or other related areas. Send emails, memos or hold meetings to communicate information to appropriate staff regarding updates, changes, or problem areas.
Prepare materials and present topics for various meetings: Bankwide teller meeting, operations meetings, asst. branch manager meeting or other meetings as needed.
Perform regular audit of teller journals (new and existing tellers). Provide report of findings to Branch Managers, Operations VP and other appropriate personnel. Follow-up to make sure certain issues are corrected.
Detect problem areas by regularly observing teller operations, reviewing cash audits, monitoring reconciliation reports, teller transaction reports, and data center adjustment reports. Work with branch/asst. managers, committees, operations department, accounting department, teller operations officer, data center, and others to further define problem areas.
Make recommendations to reduce errors, improve work habits, and update procedures as needed. Update training manual/materials for use by tellers as needed.
Maintain records and produce monthly reports.
Assist with the location and research of large teller differences.
Other duties as assigned by management.

Attainment of this position will be contingent upon successful mastery of the skills and responsibilities inherent in the duties of Teller I, (if currently employed in that capacity,) or 1 year bank teller experience or equivalent education in bank teller procedures and policies.

Knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of a high school education.

Good verbal communication skills as evidenced by the ability to interact both face-to-face and over the phone with customers and co-workers. Demonstrates ability to use tact, diplomacy and a “professional” personal appearance (including body language, tone of voice, hygiene and attire), when dealing with customers and co-workers.

Ability to manage multiple tasks and work in a fast paced deadline-oriented environment; ability to be self-motivated. Ability to demonstrate organizational and time management skills.

In addition to possessing the skills necessary to perform the job, the employee must be willing and able to demonstrate these skills by coming to work on a daily basis, as scheduled.

SKILLS REQUIRED TO COMPETENTLY PERFORM THE JOB:

Effective written communication skills, including the ability to type, prepare training checklists, prepare presentations and other training materials.

Effective verbal communication skills, including the ability to present training material and content to a group in a lively, interactive and memorable manner.

Good knowledge of the computer system utilized to process customer transactions.
