Schutte/Missouri Professor of Urban Affairs

The Henry W. Bloch School of Business and Public Administration at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) invites applications and nominations for the position of Schutte/Missouri Professor of Urban Affairs in the Department of Public Affairs. The Department offers an MPA accredited by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA), participates in UMKC’s interdisciplinary Ph.D. program, and is home to the Midwest Center for Nonprofit Leadership and the Cookingham Institute for Urban Affairs, which engages in community outreach and offers certificates in selected areas of urban affairs.

The Schutte/Missouri Professor of Urban Affairs is a tenured faculty position in the Department of Public Affairs whose teaching responsibilities will include a combination of courses in our Urban Administration emphasis area and one or more core courses in our MPA program (e.g., research and statistical methods, financial accountability and policy analysis, program evaluation). This position also leads the Cookingham Institute of Public Affairs and includes responsibility for providing leadership for the university’s teaching, research, and community initiatives in urban affairs.

We seek a nationally-recognized, tenured professor with an earned doctorate in a social science field (e.g., urban administration, public administration, economics, urban planning, urban geography, sociology, political science) and a strong record of scholarship in urban issues relevant to metropolitan Kansas City.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in multi-disciplinary collaborative teaching, research, and engagement with the metropolitan community, and will work well in a participative, collegial environment. An interest in linking urban administration with the department’s programs in nonprofit leadership and health administration is strongly desired. A record of successful major grant and contract production is preferred.
