BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Teller Supervisor or other Management personnel, responsible for conducting financial transactions between customers and the Bank. Handles routine customer inquiries and problems to maintain favorable customer and employee relations.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Receive and process checking and savings account transactions; commercial, mortgage and installment loan payments (logging when necessary); MasterCard/Visa transactions. Note and verify significant information as required by Bank policy/procedure. Follow Bank procedures when performing transactions on the teller machine and other equipment as required (encoder, CRT). Maintain favorable customer relations through proper handling of all paying and receiving transactions, according to established guidelines. Exercise discretion, judgment, and initiative regarding transaction problems and inquiries.
Maintain, verify, balance assigned cash drawer, including appropriate trial balancing throughout the day. Keep cash drawer balance below maximum limit.
Issue cashiers checks, traveler’s checks, gift checks and money orders. Process the redemption of savings bonds. Receive Treasury Tax and Loan payments.
Open night deposit vault logging the contents in log book, distributing the contents to proper individuals, and processing all deposits and other transactions using dual control at all times.
Process incoming mail transactions per Bank procedures.
Maintain awareness of Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) reporting requirements (including all logging requirements) and refer questionable or large dollar amount transactions to supervisor.
Keep drawer and coin vault locked according to security policy.
Maintain security requirements by keeping password, keys and combinations in your possession only. Do not use the password, key or combination of another employee.
Receive and answer questions on Bank transaction services and procedures maintaining good customer relations at all times. Discuss routine problems related to checking and savings transactions. Attempt to resolve customer issues. Refer difficult or complex problems to Supervisor.
Have ability to identify customers' financial services needs and cross‑sell services to meet those needs.
NON‑ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Count and verify currency to sell. Accumulate mutilated currency to be shipped out.
Work as a teller at any given location, if applicable.
Learn to and balance Automatic Teller Machine (ATM), and process deposit envelopes according to procedures.
Receive cross-training in daily end-of-business day activities, including balancing money orders, Traveler’s checks, MasterCard/VISA and TT&L payments.
Perform other duties as required or assigned.
KEY CONTACTS:
May have contact with other branch supervision for assistance, if needed.
May have contact with other Bank departments, including Help Desk.
May have contact with customers regarding accounts and services.

SKILLS REQUIRED TO ENTER THE JOB:
Attainment of this position will be contingent upon successful mastery of the skills and responsibilities inherent in the duties of Teller I, (if currently employed in that capacity,) or 1 year bank teller experience or equivalent education in bank teller procedures and policies.
Knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of a high school education.
Successful accomplishment of specified performance objectives as applicable to Teller I position.
Good verbal communication skills as evidenced by the ability to interact both face-to-face and over the phone with customers and co-workers. Demonstrates ability to use tact, diplomacy and a “professional” personal appearance (including body language, tone of voice, hygiene and attire), when dealing with customers and co-workers.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and work in a fast paced deadline-oriented environment.
Ability to demonstrate organizational and time management skills.
In addition to possessing the skills necessary to perform the job, the employee must be willing and able to demonstrate these skills by coming to work on a daily basis, as scheduled.
SKILLS REQUIRED TO COMPETENTLY PERFORM THE JOB:
Effective written communication skills, including the ability to type.
Good knowledge of the computer system utilized to process customer transactions.
